6. Woven Basket Shade Lanterns

Woven textures provide a beautiful, organic aesthetic that looks stunning against green foliage. By repurposing light, open-weave baskets, you create a “shade” for a light source that casts intricate, leafy shadows when illuminated at night.

How to Make

Find lightweight, open-weave bamboo or wicker baskets. Remove the handles if they are bulky. Cut a small hole in the center of the bottom of the basket just large enough to thread a low-voltage, outdoor-rated pendant light cord through. Hang the basket from a branch or pergola using the pendant cord. The woven material acts as a beautiful, natural lampshade that filters the light into a warm, inviting glow.

Things Needed

  • Open-weave bamboo or wicker baskets
  • Outdoor-rated pendant light cord kit
  • Low-wattage LED bulb
  • Twine (for reinforcing)
