4. Floating Pool or Pond Lanterns
If you have a water feature, pool, or even a decorative birdbath, floating lanterns add a serene, magical quality to your outdoor space. These lanterns are designed to be waterproof and stable on the water’s surface.
How to Make
Use lightweight, hollow cedar wood blocks or large, durable plastic containers as the base. If using cedar, seal it thoroughly with a high-quality marine varnish to prevent rot. Create a “box” frame out of thin wood strips around the base. Place a waterproof, floating LED light inside the center of the frame. The wood frame creates a beautiful silhouette against the water as the lantern drifts gently.
