7. Hanging Cabinet Door Trash Can

For those with limited countertop space, keeping a compost bin on display may not be ideal. A hanging cabinet door bin keeps your food scraps completely off your counters while keeping them within arm’s reach during meal preparation. This setup is highly efficient for small kitchens, apartments, or minimalist homes.
You can create this system using a small, rectangular plastic container with a sturdy lip. Attach adhesive utility hooks to the inside of your under-sink cabinet door, spacing them to hold the rim of the plastic container securely. Alternatively, you can screw a small metal bracket to the door to hang the bin. Ensure the container has a lid with a few small ventilation holes and an active carbon filter to prevent odors from building up inside the enclosed cabinet. When cooking, simply open the cabinet door and sweep your vegetable peelings straight into the bin.
