The intricate lace textured plate is a vintage-inspired project that exudes romance and delicate charm. Similar to the botanical impression technique, this project uses existing textiles to press highly detailed, repeating patterns into the clay. It is a fantastic way to repurpose old lace fabric, crocheted doilies, or textured ribbons that you may have lying around your craft room.
Roll out your air dry clay to a uniform thickness. Lay a piece of clean, dry lace or a crocheted doily flat across the surface of the clay. Use your rolling pin to roll over the lace with firm, even pressure, pressing the fabric fibers into the clay. Carefully peel back the lace to reveal a stunning, highly detailed relief pattern. Cut out your dish shape using a scalloped or circular cutter to complement the delicate lace pattern. Shape the dish in a shallow bowl and let it dry. To finish, you can leave the dish white for a delicate, porcelain-like appearance, or apply a very light glaze of pastel watercolor paint to settle into the lace recesses, highlighting the incredible texture.
