2. Pressed Botanical Impression Dish

For nature lovers, the pressed botanical impression dish offers a stunning way to preserve the delicate beauty of the outdoors. This design relies on using real leaves, ferns, or small, sturdy wildflowers to stamp intricate, organic textures directly into the damp clay. To begin, take a walk through your garden or local park to gather specimens with prominent, raised veins on their undersides, as these will leave the deepest and most defined impressions. Sage leaves, fern fronds, rosemary sprigs, and small daisies work exceptionally well for this technique.
Roll out a flat slab of air dry clay to your desired thickness. Place your chosen botanical specimen face down onto the clay surface. Gently press the plant into the clay using your fingers, then roll over it firmly but carefully with a rolling pin to embed the details deep into the surface. Slowly peel the leaf or flower away to reveal the exquisite, natural pattern left behind. Cut the clay into a circular or organic freeform shape, then press it into a drying bowl to shape. After the clay has dried completely, you can highlight the botanical details by applying a watered-down wash of acrylic paint over the impression, wiping away the excess from the surface so the paint remains only in the deep grooves.
